Sitting increases six hours or more can increase the risk of death especially in women.

American Cancer Society researchers finds that physical activity can be somewhat nullified by spend sitting too long. It may even raise the risk of an earlier death. Researchers say time spent sitting was independently associated with total mortality, regardless of physical activity level.

Spend more time active and less time sitting.
Sitting increases obesity, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease risk factors, and unhealthy dietary patterns in children and adults (18-20), very few studies have examined time spent sitting in relation to total mortality.
Alpa Patel, Ph.D. analyzed survey responses from 123,216 individuals (53,440 men and 69,776 women) who had no history of cancer, heart attack, stroke, or emphysema/other lung disease enrolled in the American Cancer Society’s Cancer Prevention II study in 1992. They examined the amount of time spent sitting and physical activity in relation to mortality between 1993 and 2006.

Risk for women is greater. If women spent six hours per day sitting = 37 percent greater risk of dying than those who sat fewer than 3 hours a day during the time of their study.

The more leisure time spent sitting the higher the risk of mortality. If women spent six hours per day sitting = 37 percent greater risk of dying than those who sat fewer than 3 hours a day during the time of their study.

Men who sat more than 6 hours a day =18 percent greater risk of dying than those who sat fewer than 3 hours per day.

The longer one sits per day the greater the chances of cardiovascular disease mortality than for cancer mortality.
If physical activity is minimum than death rate increased for women (94%) and for men (48%).

The researchers examined the participants’ amount of time spent sitting and physical activity in relation to mortality over the 13-year period.

Dr. Patel says. “Prolonged time spent sitting, independent of physical activity, has been shown to have important metabolic consequences, and may influence things like triglycerides, high density lipoprotein, cholesterol, fasting plasma glucose, resting blood pressure, and leptin, which are biomarkers of obesity and cardiovascular and other chronic diseases.

The results are published in an early online edition of the American Journal of Epidemiology.

EMR/microwave energy is a growing health risk.

Is your brain on uppers? M.Wolken Director CMA

Constant use of cellphones, microwaves and TVs have eliminate many peoples’ ability to space out while exercising. The space out is high quality time the brain needs to de-stress and, relax and balance. It is nature’s way to recharge.

When the brain is always stimulated by reading messages, working, texting, answering cellphone calls it never turns off. If you are a typical American and sleep on a coiled spring mattress and box spring and have a TV in the bedroom, the coils in the bed act as a small antenna and transmit the EMF energy from the TV to your body while you sleep. In the last 15 years American men and women have seen a sharp spike in breast cancer. This TV in the bedroom plus sleeping on the antennae (box springs) seems to be the cause. EMFs change living tissues and may cause the DNA to replicate itself improperly. This rise in cancer of the breast has not occurred in Europe or Japan.

The amount of heat shock proteins in cells nearest the micro wave energy from the cell phone results in the increased potential for developing tumors, increased stimulation of metastasis or spread of cancers, the direct development of cancer, de novo, and the decreased effectiveness of anti-cancer drugs. Dr Peter French and Antonella De Ninno from the Italian National Agency For Energy, Environment & Technology, Frascati, Italy have reported.

Besides the potential to fry your living brain cells, the brain constantly busy with digital input forfeiting healthy downtime where information could be integrated, learned and remembereasily so new solutions to challenges can come forth and the brain can adopt this new learning and neural circuitry grow.

E-field and fatigue, irritability, headaches, nausea, loss of appetite, sleeping disorder, depressive tendency, feeling of discomfort, difficulty in concentration, loss of memory, visual disorder, dizziness and cardiovascular problems.” as reported by Leif Salford, Chairman, Department of Neurosurgery, Lund University, Sweden

Fatigue never goes away if the brain is always on. The brain never rests completely.

Living and working within a quarter mile range of a cell phone towers (coming to a neighborhood near you soon) can bathe your body and brain in a constant blanket of micro wave EMF energy.

“I have no doubt in my mind that, at the present time, the greatest polluting element in the earth’s environment is the proliferation of electromagnetic fields.” Dr Robert O. Becker, Nobel Prize nominee1

So to be able to think clearly turn off the micro wave devices and keep the towers out of your area. The towers not only effect brain functioning, but decrease property values and if one takes the telecommunication groups to court, there is a gag order that will not allow any one to speak od damage to humans that hasbeen in place since 1996.

For clearer-headed and less toxic bodies be well hydrated, use you rebounder, a run outside, away from electromagnetic EMF devices, and give thanks for the beauty surrounding you. It will create new brain wave patterns and more relaxed, healthier creative thinking.

Earbuds plus loud ipod music may be causing partial deafness in teens.

What is that you are saying? Didn’t you hear me?

How many times do parents or teachers say this to their children? It seems there may be an organic reason for this temporary deafness.

Hearing loss among U.S. adolescents has surged, possibly, because of the level of noise coming through their earbuds on their ipods while listening to music.

Children ages 12 to 19 studied in 2005 and 2006, found that 19.5 percent had some hearing loss. The findings were compared to a study done between 1988 and 1994 found only 14.9. The research was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association. Hearing loss of 25 decibels or more — enough that the children were often aware of the deficit — increased to 5.3 percent of the sample, from 3.5 percent in the earlier group. Boys were more susceptible than girls.

Signs of potential hearing loss are asking that things be repeated, having difficulty following directions, listening to the television at a loud volume, having problems with speech and language, and having trouble identifying sounds.

Even minimal hearing problems can cause great stress in a competitive learning or sport’s environment. If you feel you or your child may be hearing challenges, please have them evaluated and consider reducing noise levels and possible seeking alternative remediation like acupuncture, homeopathy and neuro-kinesiology to speed healing.

Listening to loud sounds through earbuds — the tiny electronic speakers that fit into ears, for use with personal music players — is probably the main reason that more adolescents are losing some of their hearing, said William Slattery, director of clinical studies at the House Ear Institute, a Los Angeles medical practice, who wasn’t involved in today’s study.

Do you have any of these symptoms after eating eggs?
The most common symptoms of salmonella are diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever within eight hours to 72 hours of eating a contaminated product. It can be life-threatening, especially to those with weakened immune systems. The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said eggs from Wright County Egg in Galt, Iowa, were linked to several illnesses in Colorado, California and Minnesota. The CDC said about 200 cases of the strain of salmonella linked to the eggs were reported weekly during June and July, four times the normal number of such occurrences.
State health officials say tainted eggs have sickened at least 266 Californians and seven in Minnesota.

Wright County Egg of Galt, Iowa, is voluntarily recalling specific Julian dates of shell eggs produced by their farms because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, a food-borne bacteria. The company is making this voluntary recall of products because testing at the company’s farm showed some of the eggs may contain the bacteria.

The eggs were distributed around the country and packaged under the names Lucerne, Albertson, Mountain Dairy, Ralph’s, Boomsma’s, Sunshine, Hillandale, Trafficanda, Farm Fresh, Shoreland, Lund, Dutch Farms and Kemp.
The Food and Drug Administration is investigating.

Learn Sarver Heart Center’s Continuous Chest Compression CPR

Every three days, more Americans die from sudden cardiac arrest than the number who died in the 9-11 attacks.

You can lessen this recurring loss by learning Continuous Chest Compression CPR, a hands-only CPR method that doubles a person’s chance of surviving cardiac arrest. It’s easy and does not require mouth-to-mouth contact, making it more likely bystanders will try to help, and it was developed at the University of Arizona College of Medicine.

“This video is worth sharing,” said Gordon A. Ewy, MD, director of the UA Sarver Heart Center and one of the research pioneers who developed this method.

“Convenient blind spot in our perception”
Have you ever wanted something that you new you should not have? Whether it was a piece of cake, a can of beer or hanging out with certain unsavory people?

This same phenomena is occurring with the gulf fishermen and in my own neighborhood in regards to a new cell phone tower that is under construction. You can justify ignoring or eating anything that does not eat you immediately.

Here are some examples.
In Venice Louisiana, a father-and-son team didn’t expect to sell any of the prawns to customers their 70-pound (30-kilogram) catch will go into the freezer for personal consumption.

Residents of Venice, the small fishing town at the southernmost tip of Louisiana, are eager to get back on the water, but they know it could be months or even years until the fishing trade returns to pre-spill levels. …

“The spill isn’t as bad as the media has suggested,” he said, looking out into the marina’s clear-looking water. “The amount of oil they’ve released is like a gnat on an elephant’s behind.”

He’s not concerned by environmentalists’ claims that chemical dispersants released into the water by BP may have contaminated the seafood, and has been eating it every day.

“It tastes like fish,” he said. “I’m not dead yet. If the government tells me it’s not safe to eat, I won’t eat it. But I’m not going to worry about it until someone tells me. They’re the experts, I’m just a fisherman.” These toxic chemicals are taste less and generally odorless.

In my own neighborhood, as I went door to door informing and inviting people to get involved to stop the building of the cell phone tower from being put in a residential neighborhood across the street from a large elementary school, responses to the health concerns and the total lack of following safety and communication protocol surprised me.

First, I must add in everyones defense that there was no permission given or information shared with the community, before the building of this tower began. City Council has given permission to AT&T to build this tower in a heavy residential area without consideration for the residents.

Secondly, basic research and environmental studies in Europe have shown the danger to the living of living in a blanket of microwave radiation, but much research has been suppressed for financial reasons by major corporation.

Thirdly, many responses to my door to door awareness campaign covered a wide range from “I just work here, but our world and house is filled with these energies, to “I did not have any idea, but I do not want my risk of cancer to rise by three times over the next 10 years.” and another “I had no idea, let me think about what I can do to help.”

After returning to my home which is about 100 ft (160.9 km) from the tower ) hot and slightly frustrated in 100 degree temperature, I began questioning how to mass the needed support to stop AT&T. My door bell rang. It was one of the neighbors I’d shared my concern with earlier. He handed my to papers one was a letter to our local council member and another was a Google map of our ward.

Encouraged, we press on to create a safer and healthier area to live in.

Denying, simply worrying about what they are doing or ignoring these imposed illegal changes is never an option.

Thank you for reading this.

We would appreciate your comments, experiences, research links to the effects of microwaves and links to research on long range studies of oil and dispersants we would be grateful for your support and help.

Alzheimer’s Disease may be cured one day by scientists who have learned to collaborate.

What was that word you used?

My Mother always taught us to share, care and respectfully work together. She said that there is strength in number.

Seems that this is true in medical research as well. Yes, in the land where no one shared data unless they were close trusted collegues. Sometimes necessity and the overwhelming enormity of the project creates the perfect opportunity to do as mother taught us so many years ago.

Trying to solve Alzheimer’s Disease, the idea for the collaboration, known as ADNI, for Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative, emerged about 10 years ago during a casual conversation in a car between life time friends on the way to the airport.

Neil S. Buckholtz, chief of the Dementias of Aging Branch at the National Institute on Aging, was being driven to the airport by his lifelong friend, Dr. William Potter, a neuroscientist at Eli Lilly.

Dr. Potter had recently left the National Institutes of Health and he had been thinking about how to make progress in the Alzheimer’s drug research. Research was run in a dark age’s fashion

“… give a drug and hope it does something,” …“What was needed was to find some way of seeing what was happening in the brain as Alzheimer’s progressed and asking if experimental drugs could alter that progression.”

Then he had a crazy idea -what if we create a world collaboration effort?

The key to the Alzheimer’s project was an agreement as ambitious as its goal: not just to raise money, not just to do research on a vast scale, but also to share all the data, making every single finding public immediately, available to anyone with a computer anywhere in the world.

No one around the world would own the data.

No one could submit patent applications,

though private companies would ultimately profit from any drugs or imaging tests developed

The project would require 800 subjects, some with normal memories, some with memory impairment, some with Alzheimer’s, who would be tested for possible biomarkers and followed for years to see whether these markers signaled the disease’s progression.

The development of reliable and valid measures of Alzheimer’s disease requires such large science with such limited returns on the investment that it was in no one company’s interest to pursue it.

Companies as well as academic researchers are using the data. There have been more than 3,200 downloads of the entire massive data set and almost a million downloads of the data sets containing images from brain scans.

And Dr. Buckholtz says he is pleasantly surprised by the way things are turning out.

“We weren’t sure, frankly, how it would work out having data available to everyone,” he said. “But we felt that the good that could come out of it was overwhelming. And that’s what’s happened.”

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) researchers have shown that women’s cholesterol levels vary with monthly changes in estrogen levels. Where she is in this natural cycle should be noted before evaluating her cholesterol levels. On the average, the total cholesterol level of the women in the study varied 19 percent over the course of the menstrual cycle.

In a typical cycle, estrogen levels steadily increase as the egg cell matures, peaking just before ovulation. Previous studies have shown that taking formulations which contain estrogen — oral contraceptives or menopausal hormone therapy — can affect cholesterol levels. However, the results of studies examining the effects of naturally occurring hormone levels on cholesterol have not been conclusive. According to the NIH’s National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, high blood cholesterol levels raise the risk for heart disease.

The researchers found that as the level of estrogen rises, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol also rises, peaking at the time of ovulation. HDL cholesterol is believed to be protective against heart disease.

In contrast, total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol levels — as well as another form of blood fat known as triglycerides — declined as estrogen levels rose. The decline was not immediate, beginning a couple of days after the estrogen peak at ovulation. Total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels reached their lowest just before menstruation began.

For more information on the types of cholesterol and triglycerides is available

Probably cholesterol levels will be elevated in women before ovulation,

this could be very important for women whose cholesterol levels are already high.

When a test shows a high cholesterol level, physicians will often order an additional test to make sure the reading is accurate. Testing at the end of a woman’s cycle when cholesterol levels are low might do away with the need for an additional test to confirm a high cholesterol reading.

The study authors found that women’s total cholesterol levels rise as estrogen levels increase during the monthly menstrual cycle, drop shortly before ovulation, then decrease more rapidly after ovulation occurs.

The study compared estrogen with cholesterol and triglyceride levels among 259 healthy women between 18 and 44 years old. For 94 percent of the volunteers, researchers took 14 or more measurements over two menstrual cycles. Women charted the phases of their cycles with at-home fertility monitors, which detect hormone levels that indicate ovulation.

Most of the women were physically active and did not smoke. Only 5 percent consistently had total cholesterol levels greater than 200 mg/dL, considered borderline high-risk for heart disease. However, cholesterol levels among 19.7 percent of the women reached 200 mg/dL at least once.

A small subset of obese women over 40 showed greater fluctuation in cholesterol levels during their cycles than did the rest of the group. “Other studies are needed to confirm our findings among obese women,” Dr. Mumford said.

Further research may help clarify the optimal point in the cycle for doctors to measure women’s cholesterol levels and help clinicians develop standardized procedures for measuring cholesterol in premenopausal women and determining their heart disease risk.
